When looking at house maintenance we often forget to do the obvious – look up. The eye line stuff is easy to see and because you are looking at it all the time it tends to get done (eventually). This is where gutter and fascia maintenance often gets overlooked. It’s also one of those jobs that needs a ladder (and the ladder is often stored in an awkward place).

However, the importance of gutter maintenance should not be underestimated and goes beyond just clearing the gutters. Its also about checking the fascia board – especially on joints and endcaps – for any sign of softness, damp (moisture ingress), damage or rot.

As the photo shows - over time the damaged fascia (rot) had also eaten into the rafter ends requiring a lot more effort and cost to repair.

Take time out to look up, get the ladder, clear the gutters, and check the fascia to keep trouble at bay.
